September 18th – Club Black Jar Contest & Holli Kircher: How To Make Beeswax Luminaries

It’s our annual BLACK JAR HONEY CONTEST time! And…to make it even better, Holli Kircher will delight us with a demonstration on how to make beeswax luminaries–just in time for your holiday gift giving. It’s going to be a fun meeting!

Bring 4oz of your 2023 honey. Remember, you must be a NEGAMBA member in good standing to enter (meaning your 2023 dues must be paid). Multiple entries ARE allowed, so if you have different varieties of pure honey (no additives or infusions) bring them to the competition. We will be transferring entries to separate black jar containers, so don’t worry about your entry jar being perfect. This year we are going to buzz things up a bit…you will have the option to enter w/ a $5 entry fee per honey entry. The 1st place winner will win $$$ if they are a competitor who chose to enter w/ a cash entry. You are not required to pay an entry fee, but if you win and did not submit an entry fee you will not get the cash! Think about your options and bring your best 2023 honey. AND…to top it off, we will have Holli Kircher with us!

Holli is an oncology nurse, wife, and mother to two boys ages 7 and 10. In 2019, she started beekeeping w/ two colonies which rapidly expanded to over 20. Playing with beeswax quickly became a favorite pastime. She makes molded candles, castings, beeswax wraps, salves, lip balm and luminaries (bowls). She was awarded Best of Show at the Spring GBA Conference in 2022 (photography entry), Best Beeswax (molded candle entry) at the Fall GBA Conference in 2022, and Best of Show (beeswax casting entry) and Sweepstakes winner at the Georgia National Fair Honey Show in 2022. She enjoys sharing her love of beeswax with others whether it’s through gifts or conversation. She also loves teaching children about honey bees and is actively involved in her local community providing honey bee education.

This event will be held at North Georgia Technical College 1500 HWY197, Clarkesville, GA 30523. This course is FREE to all NEGAMBA members. Annual club dues are only $20/yr for a family membership. We’ll get together at 6:00pm for dinner in the Ramsey Hunter dining hall ($10.00). Class begins at 6:30pm. Not a member yet??? No problem, just show up to our meeting (your first meeting is free) and we will get you signed up!
