February 16th – Dan Long: Raising Queens & Splits
Meet the inventor of the highly successful EZPZ Queen Cage, Dan Long. Dan is a Georgia Master Beekeeper, past President of Eastern Piedmont Beekeepers Association and the volunteer beekeeper for Sandy Creek Nature Center. He is also the 2022 Georgia Beekeeper of the Year. Dan will discuss successful queen rearing and splits with us–perfect timing for spring (the bees are already gearing up!)
Over the years, Dan has spearheaded many different kinds of beekeeping events; including the Athens Beginners Beekeeping Seminar. He currently manages around 50 colonies for honey production and nucleus sales.
Founded in 2010, his Tallassee Highlands Apiary produces honey and promotes beekeeping success through volunteering, lecturing and sharing of skills and knowledge. In 2023 he founded a business designing and 3D printing equipment for raising queens called EZPZ.
This event will be held at North Georgia Technical College 1500 HWY197, Clarkesville, GA 30523. This meeting is FREE to all NEGAMBA members. Annual club dues are only $20/yr for a family membership.
We’ll get together at 6:00pm for dinner in the Ramsey Hunter dining hall ($10). Class begins at 6:30pm.
