August 18th – Learn about a new and upcoming treatment for the Varroa Destructor from Eric Walgren

Norroa™ as of 7/15/25 is pending EPA approval and is currently under review at the EPA and is not yet for sale. Title: Norroa™ a next generation varroa mite treatment that targets varroa mite reproduction. Norroa™ is suspended in a sugar syrup pouch applied to the hive and gets incorporated into the brood food that will feed developing larvae. When the foundress mite hides under the larvae before being capped, she gets exposed to the active ingredient in Norroa™ called Vadescana which she can uniquely uptake through contact. Norroa acts on a protein in the varroa mite that ultimately halts reproductions. This interruption in varroa mite reproduction results in up to 18 weeks of below threshold control with one application, no harm to queens, bees or brood and no working temperature restrictions. It’s very easy to apply and pouches only remain in hive for a short time. It also exponentially increases overwintering survival. Think of it as a prophylactic that prevents problems before they get out of hand. It’s a whole different way to look at varroa control.
